Off to Priest School
On new beginnings.
Dear friends,
Our daughter is starting preschool this fall. Also this fall, I’ll be starting seminary—which the girls call “priest school.”
I’m not sure they’ve quite got the difference between pweschool and pwiestschool down yet. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure they think we’re moving to Pennsylvania so that Bea and I can become Educated (and perhaps instigorate Knowledge) together. Which isn’t too far off the mark.
Anyway, yes: I’m starting at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary this autumn. By your prayers, I’ll be ordained a priest in about three years.
Wisely, St. Tikhon’s does not allow seminarians to “teach.” That includes blogging and podcasting about the Faith. I’m not sure if they would allow me to publish fiction, book reviews, etc.—and I don’t want to ask just yet. In any event, it’s likely this blog will remain dormant for the next three years.
That’s a little disappointing… though I can’t pretend I’m not excited about the future.
St. Tikhon’s also doesn’t want seminarians spending a lot of time on social media. That, too, seems wise to me. But I will occasionally use the “Notes” feature here on Substack. Let’s keep in touch.
I don’t have much else to say, except that God is good and I love you all. Please pray for me and my family. We’ll keep praying for you.
In Christ,
Michael
